Wood Destroying Insects (WDI)
One of the biggest threats to your home comes in the form of tiny pests that consume or live in wood. Wood destroying insects may go undetected for a long period of time, leading to structural damage and expensive repairs. It is estimated that WDI cause more than
$1 billion a year in property damage in the United States.
Statewide Exterminating specializes in WDI inspections and sends a State Certified and Licensed Technician to inspect your property for wood destroying insects. Additionally, we inspect for conducive conditions which may contribute to infestation such as plumbing leaks or earth to wood contact.
Types of WDI:
Carpenter ants bore into damp and decayed wood to make their nests. Although they do not eat the wood, the boring leads to damage in the wood components. These pests forage through your home, looking for food and water. They eat almost anything people do and are especially sweets, fat and proteins.
Carpenter bees generally nest in weathered or unpainted wood. They drill into the wood making half-inch circle entry holes that lead to tunnels where they lay their eggs. The bees will then emerge in the Spring. The tunnels may extend anywhere from 4 inches to 8 feet long.
Powder post beetles are usually transported in building materials, furniture and other wood products. The most common evidence of a powder post beetle infestation is a talcum powder-like substance.
